Sit on the Dog

Sit on the dog is a simple, yet impactful exercise for any dog. Obedience skills are great and necessary, but what gives us sustainable, long term results is using that obedience as a tool to develop a calm, confident mindset in our dog. This exercise is another fantastic tool for that. We want our dogs to learn that when there’s nothing to do, settling is an option. You’ll hear me say it again, mindset is everything.

Practice this once per day if possible, you can multitask with this, so build it into a time that you can be sitting for about an hour at first. If your dog has a habit of leash chewing, there will be a link on the next page for no chew options so you don't have to worry about making any bad habits in the process.

The link above works well for the average dog. If you have a very anxious or reactive dog, this particular method is a bit more time consuming but will pay off heavily.

Once your dog can do this easily at home, slowly and incrementally practice with more distractions. We can discuss exactly how to do this based on your dog as their training progresses.

See the instagram video below for an example of what this might look like… you might want to turn the volume down, sorry.
